Academics:
1) MathCEP - Saturday Morning Math Enrichment
Series of 4 Saturday morning sessions focused on fun and challenging topics in math.
1 session - 9:30 - 12:00 - per month in November, December, February, and March.
Held at the University of Minnesota.
Open to students in grades 6-7. There is a cost, but students may apply for a scholarship. Families must arrange their own transportation.

2) NCTE Promising Young Writers Program
Writing contest sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English
Only open to 8th-grade students
Deadline to submit entries is Feb. 15th, 2020

3) Spelling Bee
Open to students in all grades.
Will be held in the winter - exact date TBD.
The winner from Olson will advance to the district spelling bee, with the possibility of advancing further!
Students will learn more about this opportunity in their ELA classes.

4) Geography Bee
The winner from Olson will take an online test to qualify for the state bee,
with the possibility of advancing further!

Arts:
1) Juxtaposition Arts
Arts-based organization based in North Minneapolis that provides a variety of classes and camps for students.

2) Project Success - Theater Experiences
Provides free tickets to local theater productions for students and their families. Also provides transportation and childcare if needed.
Open to all grade levels. Students will receive more information in their ELA class during monthly Project Success lesson.

Summer:
1) LearningWorks
Summer and school-year enrichment program for academically motivated students. Includes classes, advising, field trips, and college visits.
Students apply in winter of 6th-grade and continue with the program for 2 years.
Free. Transportation provided. Held at the Blake School near Downtown Minneapolis.
6th-grade students will receive more information in their Minnesota Studies class in early 2020.
2) Project Success - Boundary Waters
Week-long outdoor trip to the Boundary Waters in Northern MN with small group of other MPS middle-school students and experienced staff.
Held 3 consecutive weeks in June immediately after school ends. (Students pick one week).
There is a cost, but students may apply for a partial or full scholarship.
All students will receive more information in their ELA class during monthly Project Success lesson.
