IB at Olson
Olson has launched our third and final year as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.  We are on track to apply for authorization this spring (May 1, 2019) and then be “verified” at a site visit the following fall. We hope to “graduate” our first group of MYP scholars in 2020. We know that by providing this robust IB pathway to the northside high schools, our students will be more likely to succeed in accomplising their future goals.
So far about half of the Olson teachers and administrators have completed "Official" IB training and several more will complete the required training throughout this year and summer. In addition, all staff are receiving building-wide professional development on the IB philosophy and other components of the program. This learning includes interacting with the IB Learner Profile and creating curriculum that is rigorous and culturally/linguistically relevant for each and every student. Our IB program will also integrate with the My Story, My Brilliance interdisciplinary project at every grade level. We are excited to bring this rigorous program to Olson Middle School!
